Join Pilgrims on a walk from Ripon Cathedral to Fountains Abbey tracing the steps of the original founders of the Abbey to celebrate Yorkshire Walkshire.

A Pilgrimage tracing the steps of the monks, who walked in 1132 AD, has been an annual event in Ripon on Boxing Day for the past 45 years. Last year Covid restrictions stopped the walk, and Ripon Together decided to arrange a Yorkshire Summer pilgrimage as part of its Healthy Journeying campaign. The aim is to get people out walking in Yorkshire following the lifting of Covid restrictions.

The walk will set off at 12.30 on Saturday 4th September, led by Canon Barry of the Cathedral, and should take about an hour at a leisurely pace.  There are three food outlets at Fountains Abbey, and two additional concessions will offer cakes and liquid refreshments on the Abbey Green where Ripon City Band, now in the national premiership of brass bands, will give two sessions including Yorkshire pieces, finishing at about 3.30pm.

The Yorkshire Pilgrimage is free to take part, but to ensure a safe journey we need to know the numbers attending, and free tickets for the event are available through Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/pilgrimage-from-ripon-cathedral-to-fountains-abbey-tickets-158397195275.   If you cannot access that link, you can also obtain paper numbered tickets from Ripon Cathedral and Fountains Abbey Visitor Centre.

Come and get fit on a Yorkshire Walkshire Summer Pilgrimage to Fountains Abbey from Ripon Cathedral at 12.30 on Saturday 4th September.
