Savvy students set out their good news stall

For lovers of Ripon and the many positive attractions and activities that make our city a friendly and thriving place to live ❤️, Valentine’s Day provided a perfect platform for a group of savvy students with social media skills to set out their good news stall 💡📣.

Sophie, Lucy, Fran and Amelia, who are all members of the lower-sixth form at Ripon Grammar School 🎓, are, along with fellow students, determined to ensure that young people have their voices heard when it comes to decisions on vital issues such as the provision of appropriate youth facilities.

With a sun-drenched Saturday morning ☀️ and a pavement pitch provided by the Claro Lounge, the team created a high-profile talking point and a means of engaging with the public, while selling a delicious range of Valentine’s goodies 🍰💝 provided courtesy of Morrisons Supermarket.

The group is working with Ripon Together to manage and develop the not-for-profit organisation’s social media strategy 📱, with the aim of helping to strengthen community spirit and engagement.

Ripon Together members David Ingham, Tim Tribe and Stuart Martin, who meet regularly with the group’s members, have encouraged them to build a social media presence from a younger person’s point of view 👀✨.

Amelia told Tim Flanagan of the Rejoicing in Ripon blog:

“I love being a part of the project, as I am so passionate about hopefully bringing some new youth opportunities into the Ripon community.

I have found the broad range of activities, from planning a presentation to a council board meeting to thinking of local fundraisers, really exciting.”
