Digital Connectivity in Uredale
What Residents Need to Know
Reliable broadband and mobile coverage are essential for everyday life, yet many rural areas across North Yorkshire still experience poor connectivity.
Here's a quick guide to the current programmes, support available and coverage checks.
Remember, you can access free internet in Uredale at both Ripon and Masham libraries. Here, you will find complimentary Wi-Fi and 60 minutes of free computer use available each day.
Project Gigabit is a government programme which aims to deliver fast broadband to hard-to-reach communities.
In North Yorkshire, the programme is being delivered by Quickline.
- Check if your village is included
- Call Quickline on 01482 247365 (option 3)
- Visit the government website to check your coverage
The SRN is a UK programme established to improve 4G coverage in rural areas.
The four mobile operators – EE, O2, Vodafone and Three – are working together to reduce "not-spots" (no signal) and "partial not-spots".
- Check your coverage via the Ofcom website
The UK telephone network is moving from analogue lines to digital broadband services.
Landlines will operate through your internet router.
This may affect telecare alarms, pendant alarms and homes with poor broadband.
- Contact your phone provider if unsure
- Check if your telecare equipment is compatible
- Ask about backup options in case of power cuts
Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) electricity meters are being phased out and must be upgraded to a smart meter. Some smart meters in the North still do not connect reliably because they use a radio signal rather than mobile coverage.
It is possible to get your energy supplier to upgrade or improve your connection. The most effective way to do this is to ask your County Councillor to liaise with your MP to get this in place.
- Check if your meter needs replacing
- If you don't have a connection, contact your County Councillor
